Toddler falls from third-story window at apartment complex

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A child is recovering after she fell from a third story window at a DeKalb County apartment complex.

Officers say somehow the 2-year-old girl managed to avoid serious injuries, despite crashing down onto a bed of rocks below.

"I heard a child screaming,” said witness Carlos White.

White shot cellphone video outside of the apartment building as emergency workers came to the child's aid.

He told Channel 2’s Carl Willis that he used to live in the Reserve at Stone Creek apartments in Stone Mountain, and he says he's not surprised this happened.

“Those windows actually sit on the floor so it's easy for anyone to fall out. When you lift it up it's down here at your feet,” he said.

A woman inside the apartment says the child’s mother was home at the time of the accident. She has five children, including the 2-year-old.

The child was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

Police say detectives would seek more information on the incident, but amazingly, they say child did not suffer any serious injuries or broken bones.

“I just hope the kid is OK. That's the main thing. You just have to be aware of your kids at all times. Whether they're inside the house or outside of the house, you've got to pay attention,” White said.

Police told Willis the girl was conscious and alert when she was taken to the hospital.
